To not distance an Egyptian of the third generation: That we were prevented from distancing and despising an Egyptian [such that we not] marry with him in the third generation after he converts. (See Sefer HaMitzvot, Negative Commandments 55.) And about this is it stated (Deuteronomy 23:8), “you shall not despise an Egyptian, for you were a stranger in his land.” All the content of this commandment is like the previous content of the Edomite. [Hence] there is no reason to write at length about it.
And do not understand from our words that we are commanded to get married with an Egyptian or with an Edomite after the third generation. As this is not the intention of the verse — to command us to marry with them, God forbid. And the pedigreed families in Israel [need] not come down from their virtue to marry with them. But [rather,] the verse prevents us from distancing marriage with them with the claim that it is forbidden; and it informs us that there is no prohibition at all with them, and as we wrote adjacently above.
